Synopsis

Drama. Prior to the Second World War, with the rise of Nazism in the background, a farm woman and her small son are left a rare violin by the boy's father, who was Jewish. When the boy, Jeno, grows up, he develops an instinctive talent for the violin, and is drawn through his interest in classical music to an acclaimed French pianist, Melanie Thierry, whose concerts have often been disrupted by Nazis due to her Jewish background. She helps Jeno to gain a place at a music conservatory where he meets a young aristocrat, David Blau. When Blau is expelled from the school along with other Jewish students, Jeno leaves with him, and unexpectedly discovers a melody, apparently composed by Blau's father, remembering it as the music he heard his mother sing during his childhood.
