The first programme in a six-part series which explores the human body's astonishing capacity for self-repair and reinvention when under attack, and the new strides taken by modern medicine. Considers how our bodies cope with trauma. Suggests that some of the changes which occur in the body after injury, such as loss of blood and severe drops in temperature, may actually help the recovery process. Explores case studies from the Falklands and Vietnam wars, where trauma was commonplace.
