Relates the clash between the old amateur, British Darts Organisation, and the new professional, World Darts Council. The former body, set up many years ago by Ollie Croft and his wife Lorna, changed the sport from a pub game to a major amateur sport, which gained considerable television exposure. However, in recent years, the sport's popularity and TV coverage waned, when the press attacked it for portraying overweight, cigarette-smoking and hard-drinking men as sporting heroes. The World Darts Council was set up by professional players discontented with the competitions organised by the BDO, one of which - the 1993 Embassy Championship - became a particular bone of contention between the two factions and led to a lengthy and acrimonious court battle.
