The second programme in a six-part series on the human body. Reports on efforts to replace the most inaccessible organs of the human body with spare parts. Also examines how the body adapts to real life replacements instead of bionic substitutes in hand, limb and heart transplants and considers the issues surrounding the use of animal organs. The case studies featured include a cochlea implant for a profoundly deaf two year-old boy, the replacement of damaged retinal cells with light sensitive electronic chips, and a pioneering new treatment for Parkinson's Disease involving the insertion of foetal pig cells into the brain of a human volunteer.
