Film details

Synopsis

The final episode of The Showbiz Set charts the rise and fall of the new showbiz elite in 1970s Britain. In a nation obsessed with television and its stars, these select few commanded power and a bulging wage packet. It was a decade that saw broadcasters battling for viewing figures, poaching top entertainers and launching new talent. But with huge salaries came serious pressures. This episode delves into the careers and personal lives of the much-loved Morecambe and Wise, Benny Hill, Bruce Forsythe and Mike Yarwood. It was the vices of the 70s showbiz set that were to be their downfall, from drink and drugs to womanising and workaholism. Although they were the richest and most famous celebrities of their generation, their success couldn't last forever. [www.channel4.com/press]

In addition to those noted there are also contributions from the daughters of Mike Yarwood, Clare Yarwood and Charlotte Prince, and Benny Hill's former agent, Peter Charlesworth.
