Synopsis

The third programme in a six-part history of the Renaissance. Visiting Mantua, Florence, Urbino and Ferrara, the presenter describes how the rise of city-states and the opulence of the Renaissance palaces gave rise to a new form of artistic patronage. Artists whose works are featured include Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Gozzoli and Mantegna.
