Film details


The rise of Lorenzo de'Medici and the power and influence of the family, its further patronage of artists such as Botticelli, Leonardo Da Vinci, and the discovery of the young Michelangelo. Also its rivalry with the Pazzi family and Pope and the assassination attempt on Lorenzo and his brother Giuliano, which left Lorenzo injured and his brother dead. Also considers the rise of the fanatical monk Girolamo Savonarola who believed Lorenzo was leading Florence away from righteousness through decadence, the fall in the family's finances, the death of Lorenzo and the banishment of the family from Florence in the wake of a religious backlash which also saw the beating of prostitutes and burning of homosexuals.
