A Dog's Purpose (2017)

Film details

Synopsis

In 1962, eight-year-old Ethan Montgomery and his mother rescue a Golden Retriever puppy and despite the reservations of Ethan’s father, they adopt the dog, naming him Bailey. Bailey observes Ethan as he grows up, copes with his father's alcoholism, becomes a football star before suffering a career-ending injury and falls in love with Hannah before enduring a devastating break-up from her. After his death, Bailey is reincarnated in the bodies of a number of different dogs of varying breeds and genders, from an apartment-dwelling lap dog to a fearless German Shepherd police dog, in the process discovering the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he observes. In his final incarnation as a stray, the dog is finally re-united with Ethan, who is now working as a farmer.
