In Yorkshire, Sid, the withdrawn and awkward son of an alcoholic mother and an absent father, finds that his life changes dramatically when Scott, a foster child who has been expelled numerous times, is transferred to his school. The pair form a close friendship and decide to live by a personal code in which they push themselves to achieve a series of ambitious goals. They launch two successful businesses while still at school but by their late teens their ambition and entrepreneurial spirit places them in a series of dangerous situations involving gangsters and loan sharks.
