It’s only with shame and modesty one can send such a list. Shame that there is no Hou Hsiao-Hsien, no Eisenstein, no Resnais, no Bergman, no Ozu, no The Magnificent Ambersons, Greed, The Great Dictator, Antichrist, Avatar or Out One; modesty, because obviously one week earlier, or later, my list would have been different – and also without these other titles I dishonestly just added. But lists are good anyway: they have effects, and hopefully positive effects, though in unpredictable ways. This is why we should keep making them.
