Tomorrow it could be ten other films. How does one choose between Bicycle Thieves and Umberto D, or Apocalypse Now and Come and See? Which Bergman and which Buñuel? It comes down to favourites rather than the best, and an attempt to avoid fashion and prejudice. I doubt if I’ve succeeded.
