Despite coming from vastly different backgrounds, fun-loving Shira has finally met ‘the one’ in German botanist Maria. After a whirlwind romance, Maria moves into Shira’s Tel Aviv apartment and it looks like a wedding is on the horizon. Whilst Shira’s family welcomes Maria with open arms, grandmother Berta disapproves, wishing instead for a nice Jewish girlfriend for her favourite grandchild. And as their cultural differences become apparent, Shira makes a grand gesture but is it too late for Maria? Can love truly conquer all? With strong performances throughout and a deft touch from director Shirel Peleg that never trivialises the serious issues at the heart of the film, Kiss Me Before It Blows Up is ultimately a celebration of love and the healing power of forgiveness.
