In 1999, during the war with Kosovo, a NATO train transporting military equipment to Yugoslavia is stopped in a small Romanian village. The chief of the railway station also happens to be the local gangster, and the transport, supervised by American soldiers, is crossing Romania without official documents. The Americans' arrival changes the village into a place of unexpected opportunities as long-held power balances begin to shift. Based on a true story, California Dreamin’ won the Prix Un Certain Regard at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
