Out of the Past (aka Build My Gallows High)

A beautifully intricate film noir, laden with flashbacks, in which the fated hero fails to escape his past. Robert Mitchum, here in one of his finest roles, is more than matched by Kirk Douglas, and Jane Greer is a revelation as the archetypal femme fatale.
