BFI Careers Festival

A one-day event, taking place on 11 February at BFI Southbank, dedicated to connecting young people directly with industry professionals working behind the camera in film and television production.

BFI Careers Festival

The first BFI Careers Festival in partnership with Into Film is for Year 10 and Year 11 students considering post-16 study and training, providing meaningful encounters with employers and employees.

Students will:

  • Learn about roles behind the camera, where there are real skills shortages in film and television production
  • Engage with industry professionals who can speak about the realities of their roles
  • Identify which careers suit their skills and interests
  • Understand the different routes available into these careers

The festival will take students on a journey through the workflow of a film production, showing how different occupations and skills contribute to bringing stories to life.

Students will then move through sessions mirroring each stage of a production:

  • Pre-Production
  • Production Breakout Sessions (three workshops):
    • Logistics
    • Camera and Lighting
    • Dressing
  • Post-Production

As outlined in Screen Culture 2033, the BFI’s ten-year strategy, we are committed to addressing the skills shortage by working closely with industry to increase awareness of the wide range of roles available across the screen sector. We aim to grow the number of young people accessing careers information about the screen industries, both online and in person, while building broader recognition of the diversity of screen career opportunities among parents and society at large.

The festival is proud to be part of Discover! Creative Careers, a UK government funded and industry led programme that is working to ensure there is a larger and more diverse intake of talent into the creative industries.

Registrations for this edition of the festival are now closed. To register your school’s interest in taking part next year, please email careers.festival@bfi.org.uk
