A camping trip reunites two old friends whose lives have taken different directions – Mark (London) is about to settle into family life, while the bedraggled Kurt (musician Will Oldham, achingly good) has nowhere to go. The irrevocable and growing distance between the two men is heightened by Reichardt’s eloquent use of the Oregon wilderness as both sanctuary and last frontier.
