Le Trou (1960)

Becker’s outstanding parting gift to cinema is this gripping tale of a prison escape.
Becker’s last film (he died during the editing, which was completed by his son) is a gripping tale of a prison escape masterminded by four men whose plan is threatened by the arrival in their cell of a fifth. It’s both more emotional and yet more austere – there is no music score, only natural sounds – than the director’s previous work.
