Film details

Synopsis

Musical comedy set in Hollywood in the 1920s and 1930s. A vaudeville song and dance man is given a screen test by a Hollywood studio, but the contract is offered to his wife instead. She becomes a big star while he remains on the stage. With the coming of sound he eventually becomes a film star in musicals but retires to their ranch in the mid-1930s when the craze for musicals dies away. Relations with his wife begin to deteriorate when he begins to push their daughter as a Shirley Temple-type child star.

Note: Although a number of songs are featured in the film, only the credits for the music and lyrics of `I Want to be Teacher's Pet' appear in the opening credits.
