The Owl and the Pussycat (1985)

Film details

Mapp and Lucia are presumed drowned in a dramatic flood. Their respective legatees, Georgie and the Major finally decide to take up their inheritances. The Major seems to recover rapidly from the sorrow of losing Miss Mapp, but Georgie is genuinely grieved at the loss of Lucia. He organises a memorial to the two to be placed in the churchyard. However, one afternoon two figures appear in Tilling, and Georgie and the Major are both delighted and embarrassed by the return of the two women, who describe how they survived the flood and were rescued by an Italian fishing boat which could not communicate their rescue. Major Benjy finds himself and his belongings turned out into the street. At a dinner party Miss Mapp serves up the famous "Lobster á la Riseholme".
