The Missionary (1983)

Film details

Period comedy about Rev. Charles Fortescue, a cleric who returns home after ten years in Africa as a missionary. His plans to marry his childhood sweetheart are thwarted when his Bishop asks him to set up a mission for fallen women in London's East End. Money to fund the mission comes from Lady Ames, a rich aristocratic lady who insists that he sleeps with her in return for her financial assistance. Once the mission is established, he finds himself further compromised in his efforts to secure a sufficient number of 'fallen women' to patronise the mission.
