Part two of the director's THREE COLOURS trilogy. A black comedy. The white of the title symbolises the section of the French flag which stands for equality. A French woman divorces her Polish husband when the marriage is not consumated. He returns to his native Poland where he becomes an unsuccessful bodyguard. His fortunes improve when he swindles his boss in a property deal and sets himself up as an independent black marketeer. Newly rich, he fakes his death in order to lure his ex-wife to Poland.
