Looks at the American Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas) through the eyes of its leading contemporary women artists and writers. It is border territory, where cultures meet and mix, a region where desert and settlement co-exist and two nations face each other across the Rio Grande. The programme focuses on nine women artists from Pueblo, Navajo, Mexican-American, Hispanic and Anglo backgrounds. Their work reflects the special characteristics of the Southwest; the conflicts of timelessness and change, cultural differences and confluence, and traditional versus modern social influences. Through photography, painting and writing, they characterise a place which is strongly inspirational to them.
