Spoof Merchant-Ivory type film, set in Edwardian England, Italy and India, and influenced by A Room with a View. The amiable but stupid Edward Ivory takes a break from Cambridge University to visit home at Ivory's End with his prim friend Cedric. His sister Emily lives there with their Aunt Agnes and old family retainer Hudson. Aunt Agnes is keen to marry off Emily to Cedric. Angry young working-class George rescues Emily from drowning in a lake and, in order to cure the subsequent cold that Emily gets and give Hudson a break, the whole family and Cedric travel to Italy, accompanied by George as their servant. Emily attempts to seduce Cedric, with little success. However, she has a passionate and amorous encounter with George, but refuses his proposal of marriage because of his class. They next travel to India, where Emily suspects she is pregnant; a mad tea planter takes a fancy to Aunt Agnes, and Edward and Cedric frame George for arson. The family returns to England, leaving George in an Indian prison. However, he manages to escape and arrives back just in time to prevent Emily from marrying Cedric. Edward then proclaims his love for Cedric.
