Deterrence (1999)

Film details

Synopsis

Thriller. In the year 2008, Walter Emerson, the Vice-President of the United States, is set to become President himself following the recent death of the current incumbent. Thousands of miles away Iraqi forces have invaded Kuwait led by the son of Saddam Hussein, leaving in their wake several hundred dead American troops that had formed part of a UN peacekeeping force. The President-in-waiting is stranded in a diner in a small town near Colorado during a fierce snowstorm when the crisis escalates. His staff and a television crew take over the diner; Emerson himself then appears on national television to state that the US will drop a nuclear weapon on Baghdad itself unless the Iraqi personnel responsible immediately surrender.
