Synopsis

Drama which tackles the issues of injustice meted out to women in Indian male dominated society. The title of the film DAMAN means domination. Set in Assam, the story centres around Durga, an illiterate girl who is trapped in a marriage to rich tea estate owner Sanjay Saikia. She endures violence and rape at his hands, whilst Sanjay's younger brother Sunil, who sympathises with Durga, is a witness to his brutality. Finally when Sanjay plans to marry their very young daughter Deepa to an alcoholic, and kills Sunil, Durga and Deepa escape.
