The second of two programmes about the Red Planet. Traces the course of the planned manned mission to Mars, which could take place within the next twenty years. Focuses on the numerous complications involved in such a mission, from the potential physical damage caused to cosmonauts by their zero-gravity surroundings to the psychological pressures involved in the 30 month-long trip. Participants include: astronauts Story Musgrave, Jerry Linenger, Michael Foale, Catherine `Cady' Coleman, Valeri Polyakov, Dave Williams, Sasha Lazutkin and Yuri Romanenko, John Charles, Fred Smith and Kent Joosten from NASA, Leonid Gorshkov of Energiia Astro Ltd, Mike Duke of the Lunar Planetary Institute, Joanna Wood, psychologist from Krug Life Sciences, and Vyacheslav Salnitskii and Dr Anatoli Gregoriev from the Institut of Biomedical Problems.
