A three-part unit of programmes exploring responses to drama texts for GCSE. Each programme selects one moment from the play `An Inspector calls' by J B Priestley and explores its dramatic possibilities. The process of interpretation is illustrated by looking at how the scene or sequence has been interpreted in previous productions, both on film and in the theatre, the choices offered by the text to actors and directors, and the effect of dramatic devices and staging. Each programme also provides a possible focus for coursework by examining one `stratum' of character at a key moment in the play: Mr and Mrs Birling; Sheila and Eric Birling; The Inspector.
