Synopsis

Sets out to reveal the truth behind Viking myths, and provide historical evidence for pupils to interpret and discuss in the classroom. Features the comedian Graham Fellows as his TV character `John Shuttleworth'. Using a TV show format, among the guests are trader Eric Haraldsen who demonstrates Viking bartering conventions, and storyteller Gudrun Saga who illustrates some Viking myths and legends. On location in Denmark, two young reporters visit the excavated Viking settlement at Trelleborg and the ship museum at Roskilde. Viking TV advertisements provide further insight into culture and domestic life, and the presenter faces a Viking court (The Thyng), providing a glimpse of how Viking traditions of justice have become part of the modern day British legal system.
