The fifth programme in a six-part series on the human body. Looks at advances in the treatment of cancer, and the human body's own ability to fight the disease, either with an inherited ability to repair faulty genes or by boosting the body's own immune system with a `cancer vaccine'. Treatments featured include the use of a drug derived from the poisonous African Bush Willow plant which it is hoped will strangle tumours by cutting off their blood supply, and gene therapy designed to prevent cancer cells dividing. Contributors include Dr Gordon Rustin of the Gray Laboratory who is involved in the human trials of the African Bush Willow drug.
