Synopsis

Documentary looking at the Spider-Man phenomenon and the making of the feature film SPIDER-MAN in the context of attempts to bring the comic-book hero to the screen, including the various animated tv series and the 1970s tv series with Nicholas Hammond. Also looks at the history and appeal of the Spider-Man comics and, briefly, how they dealt with the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre (New York being the setting for the Spider-Man comics) by the incorporation into a story of the attacks themselves. With contributions from actors in the 2002 film, Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, and Kirsten Dunst, director Sam Raimi, and executive producer Avi Arad, Spider-Man creator Stan Lee, Kevin Burke (author, 'Saturday Morning Fever'), film journalists Jenny Ross and Steve McKenna, tv presenter Lauren Laverne, Russell Scott and Patrick Young (curators at Yesterdayland), comic curator Bill Leibowitz, comic festival organiser Kevin Sutherland, comic book editors Axel Alonso and Joe Quesada, broadcaster Paul Gambaccini, comedian Stewart Lee, Ron Goulart (author, 'The Comic Book Encyclopedia'), comic book writers Andy Diggle and Tony Rollinson, Bradford Wright (author, 'Comic Book Nation'), Dan Raviv (author, 'Comic Wars'), Simon King from King's Reptile World, comedienne Gina Yashere, Chuck Fries (producer of the 1970s tv series), special effects expert Paul Franklin, comic book illustrator Pond Scum, and US tv reporter Casey Berglund.
