Aztecs (2002)

Film details

Synopsis

Produced alongside the Royal Academy's major exhibition of Aztec art which opened in November 2002, offers an introduction to art in Aztec culture. Highlighting the splendours, variety and sophistication of the Aztec civilisation, before the arrival of the Spanish in 1519, depicts how the Aztecs drew inspiration from the religions and artefacts of earlier cultures, which led to the production of some extraordinary works of arts. These include life-size terracotta figures of the eagle warrior and of Mictlantecuhtli, the Lord of Death, in addition to monumental works in stone, wood, feather-work, turquoise and gold.
