The Men Who Wiped out Billions (2002)

Film details

Synopsis

Investigates the growing scandal of split capital trusts, which has wiped out around £3 billion from the savings of ordinary investors, whilst the moneymen behind it have earned millions in commissions and bonuses. Zero dividend preference shares or "zeros" were sold as a very low risk investment and seemed an attractive prospect, until the markets faltered and many began to collapse. The programme considers whether the level of risk had been deliberately understated.
