Covers the history of the de Medici family in the 1500s, and its rise to power again through the conflicts and battles of the time and also the Church, as Cardinal Giovanni de'Medici is elected Pope. Looks at the position and work of Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo, and also Machiavelli. Further looks at the reign of Pope Leo X (aka Giovanni de'Medici) and his lavish excesses and selling of papal indulgences to raise funds, and the religious conflict as Martin Luther produced his 95 theses. Also, the siege of Rome, and the crowning of Giulio de'Medici as new Pope, Clement.
