This technically brilliant, multi-award winner from Sam Mendes was inspired by his grandfather's memories of fighting in the First World War.

Two soldiers are tasked with delivering a vital message out from the trenches of the Western Front to British forces stationed many miles away on the other side of no man's land. With a compelling story and stand out performances by George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman, it is the breathtaking cinematography by Roger Deakins that stands out, made to recreate the experience in what feels like a couple of continuous takes giving the viewer a sense of the chaos and horror of the battlefields of Northern France and an opportunity to marvel at the bravery of the soldiers who fought there.
