10 steps to make a movie for KS2

Join us on a tour through from a film’s conception to the big screen special effects of a blockbuster!

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Date: 30 June 2026
Time: 10:30am to 12:30pm
Location: BFI Southbank

Event details

Have you ever considered becoming a filmmaker? What stages do films go through from the first idea to the final screening? Join us on a step-by-step journey from a film’s conception, through storyboarding, filming and editing to its release and distribution.

Using selected film clips and through interactive activities, we will explore each stage of filmmaking while discussing genre, comprehension of what we see and hear on screen, and how trailers persuade audiences to watch a film. This event is a fun, interactive way to engage with film as we head towards the end of term.

Pupils will even get a chance to be foley artists and create their own film sound effects live on stage!
