Event details
This interactive event challenges students to consider the human and physical geography surrounding volcanoes. We will revise the formation of volcanoes before discussing some key case studies in detail including two contrasting eruptions in 2021: the eruptions of Cumbre Vieja, La Palma and Mount Nyiragongo, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The image of a volcano erupting can be spectacular and deadly. Documentary filmmakers and storytellers often use tectonic events to capture audiences’ attention in cinemas. This event uses a mixture of fictional film clips, documentary film and news footage to examine volcanoes in more detail and to ask challenging questions around the impact (both physical and human) and the response to eruptions.
This event is ideal for either recapping the topic or introducing volcanoes and tectonic activity.
