Event details
A clip-based, activity-filled study day aimed at KS4 English students, offering a range of approaches to Shakespeare’s Macbeth, exploring how it has been adapted for the cinema over time.
We will look at extracts from the original text and compare them to the film adaptations alongside some analysis of the overarching themes of the play and how these are shown in a few key scenes. Students will also get an opportunity to perform scenes live on stage.
The event concludes with a screening of the 2021 Apple TV adaptation, directed by Joel Coen, ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’. This gripping black and white thriller stars Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand. It manages to capture the Scottish play’s theatrical nature and engages a modern teenage audience whilst retaining the original Shakespearean text throughout.
