Join us at BFI Southbank to celebrate the French New Wave by exploring the themes and film language of Francois Truffaut’s The 400 Blows (1959).
Designed around both French and Film Studies A Level curriculums, this study day will explore themes and topics prevalent in the KS5 specifications for both subjects.
The morning session will include an interactive, clip-based introduction to the Nouvelle Vague: its style, themes, and key players, with a deep dive into Truffaut’s landmark film.
The morning session will be delivered in English and followed by an afternoon screening of The 400 Blows.

Schools which have over 20% of students receiving free school meals should ask about a discount when booking.
Please book by 4pm, two working days before the event. However, we recommend booking earlier to avoid disappointment.

The study day costs £12.50 per student.
Accompanying teachers / adults are charged £1 per 5 students — otherwise student rate applies.
Teachers attending without students cost £40.
