Applicant guide for using the fund portal

Guidance for accessing the YourCause portal to submit an application to the BFI.

If you have any questions about this guide or the YourCause applicant portal, email [email protected].

Setting up your account

You must create a new account to submit an application in the YourCause applicant portal. You can choose to connect your YourCause account to your:

  • organisation’s single sign-on (SSO)
  • Google account
  • Apple account
  • email address (personal or work emails will work)

If you choose to create a new account using an email address, a confirmation code will be emailed to you. Once confirmed you can create your password and your account will be set up.

Signing into the portal

After you sign in, you’ll be taken to the main applications area called ‘My Applications’.

The first time you sign in, the ‘My Applications’ page will say ‘No results found’, but will populate with forms as you start working on them. You’ll be able to filter your applications by their ‘status’, application ID or name of the organisation that you applied with to the fund.

By selecting your name in the top right-hand corner, you can go to ‘My Account’ to update your personal information. Your name and email address cannot be amended and will be greyed out. If you need to change the email address you use to login, email [email protected]

Using the buttons at the bottom of the screen, you can download the data that is stored on this page or delete your account. Selecting ’Applications’ at the top left of the screen will you back to the ‘My Applications’ area.

Starting an application

To start a new application, you’ll need the unique link which is in the guidelines of individual funds.

From the link, you can start a new application.

When you start an application, you’ll need to select an existing organisation associated with your account, or set up a new organisation.

Although companies from all countries may be shown, most funds will only allow applications from organisations or individuals based in the UK. Always check the fund criteria if you’re unsure.

Selecting or adding an applicant account organisation

This organisation will be attached to your account. You will also be asked to provide the details of the organisation in the ‘Organisation’ section of the application form.

If you’ve not created applications for an organisation before, select the blue ‘+ Add organisation’ text in the bottom left corner. If you have previously created the details for the organisation, this will show in this section.

If you need to add an organisation

You’ll need to include these details for your organisation:

  • location
  • organisation name (as it appears on the registration website such as Companies House, Charity Commission, or similar registration body including the correct suffixes, for example ‘Limited’ or ‘CIC’)
  • full address (as it appears on the registration website such as Companies House, Charity Commission, or similar registration body)

There are optional fields but the ones above are required.

Once you are satisfied that the information is correct, select ‘Submit and continue’ to progress into the application form.

Resuming an in-progress application

All your applications (including any you’ve been added to as a collaborator) are in the ‘My Applications’ section of the portal.

Add collaborators to an application

If you’re collaborating with others on the application form, you can add them as applicants using the ‘Manage Applicants’ button.

In this section, you can enter the email address of collaborator to add them to your application and customise their level of access using the permissions section.

You will still be the lead applicant of the application, but collaborators are able to contribute to an application with their separate login.

Additional features on the portal

Autosave

All application forms will be autosaved periodically with a ‘Saved’ pop-up appearing in the bottom left-hand corner of any form, but we encourage all applicants to keep offline records of their form content in case of technical issues.

Using the ‘Download’ button, you can download a PDF copy of your application form.

Applications for different organisations

If you apply for funding from another organisation which also uses the YourCause applicant portal to host their application forms, all of your applications will sit under the same account.
