To further the BFI’s commitment to supporting an industry led and localised approach to training and workforce development, The Places Fund: Skills and Training is investing in three place-based projects across the UK, where there is evidence that screen production is growing and workforce development needs exist.
To complement funding of the BFI Skills Clusters in seven production hubs across the UK, the Places Fund is supporting activity in Bristol, Cornwall, Swindon and Gloucestershire.
Each led by organisations with strong local industry insight and a commitment to piloting new approaches to workforce development, these projects bring together studios, education and training providers, screen agencies, and industry stakeholders. They are delivering activities such as research into local skills gaps and shortages, the design and piloting of training courses, mentoring, work placements, and industry networking, and seeking to develop longer term skills strategies which will support growth in each area.
Places Fund recipients for 2024 to 2026:
- Create Studios (Swindon and Gloucestershire) – £164,047
- Screen Cornwall (Cornwall) – £126,969
- Bristol City Council (Bristol) – £245,425
