A History of British Animation 2018

To coincide with a year celebrating animated classics, the BFI also now offers a refreshing new look at British Animation. A diverse collection of shorts from across the 20th century have been remastered by the BFI National Archive to offer the fullest portrait to date of the rises and falls, and the achievements of one of Britain’s most idiosyncratic contributions to world cinema.

LGBT50 international programme

In July 2017, the BFI marked 50 years since a major landmark in human rights – the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales – with screenings at selected international venues in partnership with the British Council. The programme explores the pioneering and sometimes problematic depictions of LGBT life in British film and TV before and after the 1967 Sexual Offences Act. Available titles include:
