Lesson 1: The Roof Top Scene

This lesson is aimed at KS5 French students and explores the themes of immigration, diversity and relationships. Students will be able to practise topic-specific vocabulary linked to the themes presented in the clip (below) and practise key grammar points. This lesson is aimed at KS5 French students and will focus on the themes of immigration, marginalisation and the media. Students will be able to practise topic-specific vocabulary linked to the themes presented in the scene and practise key grammar points.

The video below presents two scenes from La Haine with shot by shot analysis exploring the film’s themes and techniques as required for the French KS5 written paper. Powerpoints are also available to support the teaching of the scenes, and with further guidance on how to analyse a film scene for language essay writing.
