BAFTAs 2026: the winners in full

One Battle After Another was the biggest winner at this year’s BAFTAs, taking best film and best director for Paul Thomas Anderson, as well as adapted screenplay, cinematography and editing. The film also secured more prizes, with Sean Penn winning best supporting actor and further nominations for Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor.
Hamnet followed closely behind, winning outstanding British film and leading actress for Jessie Buckley. Chloé Zhao’s adaptation also won original score for Max Richter. Sinners had a strong night, winning original screenplay, supporting actress for Wunmi Mosaku and original score for Ludwig Göransson. Sentimental Value was named best film not in the English language, while I Swear took leading actor for Robert Aramayo and best casting. Frankenstein won costume design, production design and make-up and hair, while Avatar: Fire and Ash won special visual effects and F1 was recognised for sound.
BFI-backed projects were also recognised at this year’s awards. My Father’s Shadow won outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer; the film was supported by the BFI National Lottery Filmmaking Fund alongside BBC Film, helping to develop and produce Akinola Davies Jr’s debut feature. In the shorts categories, Two Black Boys in Paradise won British short animation – a project backed by the BFI Short Form Animation Fund, which uses National Lottery funding to support innovative short animated work by UK creators.
