Berlin 2026 lineup features 11 BFI and UK Global Screen Fund funded films and co-productions
Ashley Walters’ BFI-backed directorial debut is among the raft of UK world premieres announced for this year’s Berlin International Film Festival.

A packed slate of 11 BFI-backed and UK Global Screen Fund-supported films has been announced as part of the lineup for this year’s Berlin International Film Festival. The UK selection spans the festival’s major strands – including Official Competition, Panorama, Perspectives, and Generation Kplus – and showcases the strength of UK talent across fiction, documentary, and international co‑production.
Four UK Global Screen Fund-supported co-productions will compete in Official Competition this year:
- Nightborn – Directed by Hanna Bergholm. Written by Hanna Bergholm and Ilja Rautsi. Starring Seidi Haarla and Rupert Grint.
- Dust – Directed by Anke Blondé. Written by Angelo Tijssens. Starring Arieh Worthalter, Jan Hammenecker, Thibaud Dooms and Anthony Welsh.
- Rosebush Pruning – Directed by Karim Aïnouz. Written by Efthimis Filippou. Starring Callum Turner, Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, Elle Fanning and Pamela Anderson.
- Everybody Digs Bill Evans – Directed by Grant Gee. Written by Mark O’Halloran and Owen Martell. Starring Anders Danielsen Lie, Bill Pullman and Laurie Metcalf.

In the festival’s Panorama section – known for spotlighting bold, socially engaged cinema – several BFI-backed projects feature prominently:
- Lady – Written and directed by Olive Nwosu. Starring Jessica Gabriel’s Ujah, Amanda Oruh, Tinuade Jemisey, Seun Kuti and Bucci Franklin. Supported by the BFI Filmmaking Fund.
- The Education of Jane Cumming – Directed by Sophie Heldman. Written by Flora Nicholson. Starring Flora Nicholson, Clare Dunne, Mia Tharia, Fiona Shaw, Sadie Shimmin. A UK Global Screen Fund international co‑production.
- Douglas Gordon by Douglas Gordon – Directed by Finlay Pretsell and receiving its world premiere in Panorama Dokumente. A BFI Doc Society Fund documentary.
Berlin’s Perspectives strand will see two more UK-backed world premieres:
- Animol – Directed by Ashley Walters. Written by Nick Love. Starring Tut Nyuot, Vladyslav Baliuk, Sekou Diaby, Stephen Graham and Sharon Duncan-Brewster. Backed by the BFI Filmmaking Fund.
- A Prayer for the Dying – Written and directed by Dara Van Dusen. Starring Johnny Flynn, John C. Reilly, Kristine Kujath Thorp and Gustav Lindh. A UK Global Screen Fund international co‑production.

The festival’s youth‑oriented Generation Kplus section will host:
- Under the Wave off Little Dragon – Written and directed by Jian Luo. Starring Wang Kexin, Jessica Dong. Supported by Future Takes, the high budget shorts fund from the BFI and Film4.
- Riding Time – Directed by by Roopa Gogineni and Farhaan Mumtaz. Backed by the BFI Doc Society Fund.
The festival runs 12 to 22 February 2026.
