Blu-ray and 4K UHD releases for October and November 2025

Our October and November 2025 releases on Blu-ray and 4K UHD are a wonderfully mixed selection of home entertainment titles presented in top quality editions – several of which are coming to Blu-ray for the first time in the UK.

6 October: Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles on Blu-ray (2-disc set)

Chantal Akerman’s landmark 1975 feature receives its first-ever stand-alone home entertainment release on any format in the UK. Previously available only in Volume One of the BFI’s comprehensive Akerman box sets, this 2-disc edition presents on Blu-ray the film which was famously voted Sight and Sound’s Greatest Film of All Time in 2022 — the first time a female filmmaker claimed the top spot.

13 October: Short Sharp Shocks: Volume 4 on 2-disc Blu-ray and Eyes Without a Face on 4K UHD

The fourth instalment in BFI Flipside’s celebrated and highly entertaining Short Sharp Shocks series offers another eye-opening collection of unusual, exceptional, eerie and eccentric short films. Spanning 1948 to 1980, this volume will once again feature distinctive artwork by renowned illustrator Graham Humphreys.

Georges Franju’s haunting classic of French cinema arrives in stunning 4K UHD this month, with newly commissioned artwork by illustrator David Downton. Blending pulp, horror, and poetry, Eyes Without a Face (1960) has influenced generations of filmmakers, including Jesús Franco, John Carpenter and Pedro Almodóvar.

27 October: Hilary and Jackie on Blu-ray

Anand Tucker’s award-winning drama Hilary and Jackie (1998), written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce, tells the moving story of cellist Jacqueline du Pré (Emily Watson) and her complex relationship with her sister Hilary (Rachel Griffiths). This release is the film’s worldwide debut in high definition.

17 November: Priest on Blu-ray and the Akira Kurosawa Samurai Collection on Blu-ray

Available for the first time on Blu-ray, Antonia Bird’s powerful and controversial 1994 drama features a stellar British cast including Linus Roache, Tom Wilkinson, Lesley Sharp, Cathy Tyson and Robert Carlyle. Written by Jimmy McGovern, Priest remains a bold and thought-provoking work.

The BFI’s best-selling Kurosawa box set returns, now updated with recent remasters of five of the legendary director’s greatest films: Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo and Sanjuro. This indispensable collection is packed with extras — including documentaries, interviews, commentaries and original trailers.

24 November: The House of Mirth on Blu-ray

The final release of 2025 is a new BFI remaster of Terence Davies’ adaptation of Edith Wharton’s classic novel. Featuring an exceptional performance from Gillian Anderson, The House of Mirth (2000) deserves to be regarded as one of the finest British films of its era. This release brings it to Blu-ray for the first time.
