On the Face of it with Lee Hall

Acclaimed screenwriter Lee Hall hosts this introduction to King Coal, the BFI’s season celebrating the British coal mining industry. This illustrated lecture was accompanied by clips from the BFI National Archive, including the season’s animated mascot King Coal (1948), and compelling footage of miners at work from the 1960s. Lee Hall expertly articulates the significance of this archival heritage for a contemporary audience.
