Saturday Night at The Palace + Q&A

Based on the play by Paul Slabolepsky (who also stars in the film), Saturday Night At The Palace tells the story of working-class whites Dougie and Forsie arriving at the titular roadhouse, gradually embroiling black waiter September in their confrontation with disastrous consequences. Director Robert Davies joins South African Cinema Season curator Trevor Taylor for a Q&A session after a screening of the 1987 film, discussing the struggles of making a non Afrikaans-language film in the incendiary political climate of Apartheid-era South Africa and revealing the governmental interference experienced by filmmakers at that time.
