Adapting Dickens for Television Panel

Broadcaster Mark Lawson chairs a panel discussion about the relationship between Dickens's work and television. Writer Sarah Phelps discusses the connections between Dickens and soap opera, and the challenges inherent in adapting very familiar novels like Great Expectations and Oliver Twist. BBC Drama Series & Serials Controller Kate Harwood talks about different approaches to serialisation, and the importance of continuing to reimagine Dickens's characters. Director Diarmuid Lawrence reflects on his experiences of bringing Dickens's unfinished final novel The Mystery of Edwin Drood to the screen.
