Not only are the directing and acting superb, the script (by Charles Lederer, with serious uncredited help from Ben Hecht, and the skeleton of Hecht and MacArthur’s The Front Page, on which it hangs) is one of the best ever written. Why shouldn’t a screwball comedy be considered the greatest film of all time?
