National Lottery #ThanksToYou – Enter the draw to explore the BFI National Archive

Deadline extended to midnight on Monday 18 November for our special tour on 28 November.

This year is the 25th Birthday of The National Lottery and we’re excited to be a part of the celebrations by joining in the #ThanksToYou campaign. The campaign celebrates the contribution of National Lottery players in supporting good causes over the past 25 years.

National Lottery players contribute £30 million towards good causes every week. To say #ThanksToYou, we are offering 30 lucky film fans a rare chance to explore the BFI National Archive.

Throughout the year the BFI awards National Lottery funding to support film culture across the UK; backing bold and original storytellers, giving audiences across the UK the chance to enjoy a diverse range of film and nurturing the very best in UK filmmaking talent. The UK national and regional archives have also made over 10,000 films accessible for free through Britain on Film using National Lottery funding.

Some 30 National Lottery players will have the opportunity to visit our archive in Berkhamsted by entering a lucky draw as part of the #ThanksToYou campaign. The Archive holds a magnificent collection of film and television, from the birth of cinema to today. Dating from the earliest days of film to the live capture of current television content, the BFI National Archive contains nearly a million titles. Founded in 1935 the archive has grown to become the one of the largest and most important collections of film and television in the world.

Guests will be welcomed to the archive by our knowledgeable curators followed by an insightful tour of the collections with our archive team. Guests will also see the BFI’s expert conservation teams at work, undertaking the time-consuming and complex task of restoring films. Finally, guests will be treated to a light lunch and given the opportunity to talk about their film findings with the group.

The tour will take place on Thursday 28 November 2019; starting promptly at 10am. A light lunch will be provided at 12.30 at the end of the tour. Please review the offer T&Cs carefully on how to enter the draw and the logistics of the day.
